If you have been in a vehicle on the road, you have mostly likely been exposed to "road rage
" at one point or another. A shame to humanity, but a not an unlikely occurrence. Road rage is a multi-faceted problem and varies between individuals in how it develops, but the primary factors are the same. Therapists in the United States are trying to get road rage certified as an official mental disorder because the behaviors exhibited can be associated with intermittent explosive disorder intermittent explosive disorder. Even though vehicles are becoming more safe it seems the roads are becoming eve more dangerous. So how does one overcome such aggression in a high paced life? The following solutions are preventative measures for road rage, we have included a short clip to a possible post road rage solution below ;)
Create a comfort zone
A suggestion from all driving departments but rarely ever followed. Allow space between the driver in front of you (at least one car space) this space will be used as reaction zone (allowing you more to react to sudden change in road condition) and also allow other drivers to merge into lanes when needed.
Cruise Control
The greatest function in the car. This function allows you to be at ease in your comfort zone. If driving conditions permit just place the cruise on the speed limit and the follow the next steps in comfort. This will create a relaxing environment for you but do not get to comfortable, always be aware of your surroundings.
Overlook people's mistakes
I noticed for myself that continuous reflection on people's bad driving skills makes me more frustrated. A great solution is to just overlook the mistake and adjust your driving habits accordingly
Listening to calm audio
Listen to soft music or calm radio shows or audio books. I highly recommend lectures from Alhambra Productions, who's mission is to produce quality products to nurture the heart, mind, body & soul. For this topic, Purification of the Heart is a great lecture.
Use a Hands free device
Technology has made our lives easier so use it! Stop hassling with your phone, touching your radio dial, and anything that is touchable. Use items can be of great distraction in the car so do your best to keep your car distraction. Example of Headsets for Cell phones, Voice-Enabled GPS systems, etc. Of course if such equipment is not possible for your car then make sure to limit all possible distractions before driving. Examples include organizing the car's interior, setting your radio station, etc. Be smart!
If you try the following solutions and still get caught in road rage try Trunk Monkey.
Trunk Monkey, of course this is not a positive solution.
